Dear Parents,

Thank you to all of you who remembered our teachers on their day. As well as personal presents to teachers, all the staff was happy to find cakes, cookies, pasties and a basket of fresh fruit in the staffroom this week.

Congratulations to Nicole Torres and Sofía Morales who competed in a spelling competition (Concurso de Ortografia) on Friday 11th May.  Nicole achieved a result within the top 10 competitors.  Well done to you both!

Year 2 had a fantastic camp at El Arenal.  Thank you so much to Miss O´Reilly, Miss Quesnel, Mrs Gomez, Edu, Ale and Susi for leading such a valuable, educational experience.

On Friday 25th May, 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m., the Year 12 Business Studies class will be selling products to raise awareness about recycling. These will include pencil cases made from recycled jeans and t-shirts promoting recycling. Every year the Year 12 Business Studies class undertakes a similar project but this year the aim was to incorporate a social objective. This links with work students have been involved in with regards to the Clipperton Project. The Clipperton Project seeks to raise awareness of social issues and encourage active citizenship on issues such as recycling. The proceeds will be going to the orphanage and parents and friends are invited to come along and see the great work the students have been doing.

The Yr. 12 girls are collecting old unused jeans that you don’t want anymore. If you have any please bring them on Monday. The Yr. 12 girls from Business Studies class will start selling the pencil cases on Friday. The price will be $80.00

VICTORIA would like to invite you to participate in our annual “Live Art” event. This is an interactive art event that will take place in Ezequiel Montes in front of the church in the main plaza, on Sunday 27th May from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. It is great fun for everyone of all ages and we hope to see as many of you there as possible!

The ENLACE exams will be applied to all Primary and Secondary schools in the country from 4th- 8th June. It is important to motivate our students to do well and parents should pay close attention to the amount of sleep their children get and their eating habits during these exams.

This year our educational authorities will check all student photographs. We will be taking Year 7 and Year 10 students’ photographs at school on Monday 21st May for $40.00. Please send the money to Lety Ochoa in Reception.

I had a very good meeting, on Wednesday in Mexico City, with the Head Teachers from the other international schools.  We are very excited about the forthcoming Latin American Heads Conference taking place in Mexico next year. The word of the week is ‘globe’.

We would like to invite you to Teachers vs. Parents football match tomorrow (Saturday 19thMay) in school at 9:30 a.m.  Come along to play or watch and show your support!

I am very sorry to have to postpone my parenting course again. On Wednesday 23rd May I have to go to a meeting with the SEP to discuss inclusion of pupils with special educational needs. The next parenting course will be on Wednesday 30th May at 1:45 p.m. and we will be talking about sex education.

Please can I remind you that the traffic system is one-way and nobody should be driving in the opposite direction to the queuing cars.  I would also like to remind you to drive slowly as it is a busy time with lots of people crossing the road.

Have a restful weekend!

Yours sincerely,

Dr. Kelly Tanner,

Academic Director.
