For the past few years New York University Abu Dhabi’s Outreach Programme has visited VICTORIA, and other international schools, looking for a special kind of applicant. They seek top academic students with strong leadership skills and a global outlook.
NYU New York is their best known and most prestigious campus but in recent years they have opened campuses in Abu Dhabi, Shanghai, Sydney and Accra. NYU Abu Dhabi is a Liberal Arts university where students can study a Bachelor of Arts or Science degree. It has an international community with students from over 100 different countries, speaking at least 60 different languages!
Admission is very competitive. Schools are asked to nominate students whom they believe match NYU Abu Dhabi expectations, which is done at the school’s discretion. Of course any student who is interested in studying at NYU Abu Dhabi may apply for admission but it is important to realise the profile the university is looking for.
The selected students demonstrate:
- Top performance and accomplishments beyond the classroom
- Global outlook with an enthusiasm for different cultures and perspectives
- Intellectual curiosity and a passion for learning
- Leadership skills of maturity, independence and self-confidence
- Community engagement with participation in the arts, sports and social projects
The first VICTORIA student accepted by NYU Abu Dhabi was in 2012. Since then four more have attended candidate weekends in Abu Dhabi and received offers to study there. The campus is very attractive and the student residences are two-bedroom apartments with a shared study, kitchen and laundry areas. Our students have been offered very generous scholarships covering tuition, accommodation, books and materials as well as two return flights home each year.
